Apponaug Homes for Sale

Warwick's historic village center and seat of city government

Apponaug is the closest thing Warwick has to a downtown. City Hall, police and fire headquarters, a branch library and the post office all sit around the village center, where Post Road, Greenwich Avenue and Centerville Road meet. The name comes from the Narragansett word for "place of oysters," and Apponaug Cove still holds rich shellfish beds.

Homes in Apponaug

Buyers here get a mix you do not find in most of Warwick: 18th- and 19th-century homes in the Apponaug Historic District, a handful of converted mill-era buildings, and streets of postwar single-family homes and condos on the outskirts. Historic homes can come with older systems and preservation questions, so we look closely at inspections and comparable sales before recommending a price.

Living in Apponaug

The one-way traffic loop around the village, the Kentish Artillery Armory (1912) and the 1890s City Hall give Apponaug its character. You are minutes from the Route 117 interchange on I-95, Gorton Pond and the Warwick Mall, which makes it an easy base for commuters in either direction.
